The 32nd Festival classical season opens with Wagner’s surprise birthday present to his wife, a piece first played on Christmas morning by musicians on their staircase. Following is a fun ride through the Norwegian countryside with Grieg’s Holberg Suite depicting a beautiful and powerful landscape. The concert rises to a close with Beethoven’s upbeat, but lesser performed, Symphony No. 4.
